City to decide fate of air ambulance
Special meeting Wednesday evening
DESERT NEWS STAFF REPORT
CALIFORNIA CITY - City council members were expected to make a decision
on the fate
of city-sponsored air ambulance service at a special meeting scheduled
for 6 p.m.
Wednesday after the Desert News is printed.
The action is in response to a decision by MedTrans, the firm currently
providing the
service, to cancel its contract.
Fire Chief Mike Antonucci has proposed that the city join two partners
to purchase a Bell
430 helicopter for $3.2 million, to be operated by the city. The new helicopter
is larger than
the one currently operated by MedTrans, and can provide law enforcement
and other
services, Antonucci told the city council last week.
The city must make a decision soon to obtain a helicopter offered them
by Bell helicopters
of Ft. Worth, Texas.
