CALIFORNIA CITY — The number and value of building permits issued by City Hall in August reflect a continuing upward trend in development, mostly in single family homes.
According to figures released for August, the city issued 38 permits last month worth $3.6 million. Since January the city has issued 255 permits, worth a total of $18.8 million. The most prolific month so far this year was July, with 45 permits, valued at $3.4 million. In 2003 the city issued a total of 235 building permits, worth $9.5 million.
So far this year the city has issued permits for 87 single family homes, 10 mobile homes, four apartment/duplex projects, and five industrial or commercial developments.
All this building activity means revenue for the city in the form of several fees, not just building permit fees, but also plan check fees, Antelope Valley East Kern Water District fees, sewer connection fees, school impact fees, a Strong Motion tax, and sometimes mobile home-related fees. In August these fees added about $160,000 to the city’s coffers.
