Economic Development Update - June 2003
As one of the fastest growing regions California City continues to
prosper, with a growing diversified business base that welcomes the new
$50 million dollar Hyundai/Kia research and development facility and other
new business ventures. California City is poised for economic growth during
the 2003 - 2004 years.
The resurgence in defense related work and the tremendous demand
for affordable housing in Southern California, and a rapidly expanding
workforce will drive job growth in California City. These factors, along
with a cost of living below the national average and being rated as among
one of the lowest cost communities in which to do business, position California
City for future growth.
2002 / 2003 Milestones

Hyundai/Kia to open auto test track facility $50 million dollar project
and 50 or more new jobs.

Nourish America to locate at California City Airport, $3 million dollar
project and 25 new jobs.

Voters approve new California City High School and Elementary Schools.

Skilled nursing facility announced.

Ace Hardware to relocate and expand to a new 16,000 square foot facility.

Local restaurant opens second facility at Cal City Airport.

Foreign Trade Zone Industrial Park approved.

Magna Urgent Care Center opens.
-
Local companies such as Mojave Unified Schooll District, Chevron Oil,
Silver Saddle Ranch and others will expand during the year providing new
employment opportunities.

California City Foreign Trade Zone Airport Industrial Park infrastructure
consisting of water, sewer, natural gas, electrical and streets is completed
on this 40 acre complex with 14 parcels from 1 acre to 4 acres. Two 30,000
square foot industrial buildings under construction will anchor complex.

Currently Rite-Aid and McDonald's anchor our mid-town retail center.
Ambitious marketing efforts are underway to attract other retail tenents
to neighbor our major grocery store (TBA).

Currently our Napa Auto Parts and Chevron Oil Company are achieving
record sales with our high off road vehicle activity and rural area contiguous
to the population trade ares.

Corrections Corporation of America the largest private corrections company
currently employ 550 full time employees. This facility is the largest
of its kind in the nation and construction to begin 2004-2005 on their
500 bed expansion project. CCA has a 10 year contract with the Federal
Bureau of Prisons for $529 million and their monthly payroll is $2.1 million.

The Lake Shore Inn Hotel will be remodeled and refurbished in 2003-2004
under new ownership. This new flag hotel facility will be complete with
a 20,000 square foot convention center and a 120 unit luxury townhomw complex.

Under construction is a new 42 acre sub-division project which includes
120 new single family homes, 20 townhomes and 1 acre of new commercial
development with tenants.

The Inn at Tierra Del Sol has submitted plans for a 26 unit golf course
resort facility on the Tierra Del Sol golf course, with a proposed expansion
of an additional 26 rooms.

Desert Jade Senior Housing Complex has completed their 96 unit senior
citizen's housing project complete with a clubhouse facility.

450 acres of land has been purchased and will become home to a new carbon
steel manufacturing facility creating 550 new manufacturing jobs in the
California City.

Neighboring these facilities will be a 30 acre relocating helicopter
and aircraft manufacturing facility that will employ 350 new aerospace
workers.

California City's mission is a commitment to economic development and
commercial growth to enhance our viability as a leading community in Kern
County and the Antelope valley. Commercial and industrial planning with
incentives in place and a pro-business attitude make California City an

impact, zoning and infrastructure needs have been addressed to eliminate
