Desert Tortoise Days theme established

CALIFORNIA CITY - The Desert Tortoise Days committee has set "Focus
on Families" as the theme for this year's Desert Tortoise Days celebration.
Scheduled for April 30 and May 1 of this year,the annual festival celebrating
the desert tortoise has been a feature here for mor than 30 years. The
festivities this year will include a parade down the main street of the
community on Saturday morning with bands, equestrians and antique automobiles
as well as local marching units representing almost every community organization.
After the parade a fishing derby will be held for youth anglers at the
lake in Central Park.
Three golf tourneys are planned: one on the par-3 course, one on the
18-hole course and a youth tourney. Also for the younger attendees a battle
of the bands will feature many of the well known local musical talent.
Displays and vendor booths will be set up in Central Park all day long
on both Saturday and Sunday. A pet parade will be held on Sunday and games
for children will be held on the east end of the park.
