Cal City EDC begins campaign to lure WalMart
DESERT NEWS STAFF REPORT
CALIFORNIA CITY - An effort to attract a WalMart store to this city
has been begun by the California City Economic Development Corporation.
EDC President Jim Quiggle said city residents must show support before
the firm, the world's largest retailer, will consider a community.
"If we show enough interest in WalMart, they might be more open to
come to our neighborhood instead of somewhere else," Quiggle said.
The company, which is the largest importer of goods entering the
U.S. through the Port of Los Angeles, has a website just for suggestions
about where they should choose to open a new store.
Click on the below link and place a vote for
California City.
The address is http://www.walmart.com/cservice/ca_st_iwantstore.gsp?NavMode=8.
The site has a form residents can complete expressing their interest
in having a store in the city.
"If enough residents fill out that form, we might steer them toward
California City," Quiggle said. "A WalMart store could mean more jobs and
could attract additional businesses."
